A man and a woman were killed on a Michigan college campus in what authorities believe was murder-suicide on April 10. The male suspect was able to smuggle a shortened shotgun into a community college classroom before shooting the victim and then turning the gun on himself.
According to police, the 28-year-old man and the woman were classmates at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Mich. Authorities do not believe the two were involved romantically.
According to the man’s parents, their son suffered from a mental illness and depression. They had previously tried to get him help. Local police are trying to get warrants to gain access to information about the man on Facebook and YouTube.
The campus went into lockdown after police responded to shots on campus. Classes reopened on April 14 after special meetings were held to allow students, faculty and staff discuss the incident, reported The Detroit News. Henry Ford Community College is home to 17,000 students.
