2 Calif. Community Colleges May Lose Campus PDs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Grossmont and Cuyamaca Community Colleges could soon be patrolled by armed Sheriff deputies and do away with their own unarmed police officers.

The move, which would cost at least $1 million, is in response to growing campus security concerns, reports Fox 5 San Diego. Although department statistics indicate the number of incidents decreased from 2006 to 2011, school officials say the statistics don’t match the number of complaints by campus constituents.

An unidentified campus police officer told the TV station that his department was set up for failure.
