RIVER RIDGE, La. – A young boy shot himself in a suicide attempt outside the gymnasium of a Louisiana private school, John Curtis Christian School on Nov. 5.
Described as “happy-go-lucky,” 13-year-old Joseph Lynn was taken to the hospital after a female student heard a noise, checked behind the building and immediately informed school authorities about the incident. Lynn’s name was released because his mother wanted others to pray for him. According to the acting headmaster of the school, J. T. Curtis, Lynn was breathing and his blood pressure was stable.
No other students were injured during the incident, nor were they in any danger.
The school has 450-500 students and does not have metal detectors. Curtis stated the school never required detectors because guns were never a problem at the school.
Classes continued as scheduled, however, the school had an assembly where clergy members spoke to students about the incident.
