A group of 12 Swarthmore College students have filed a complaint with the federal government claiming their school violated the Clery Act for not adequately addressing sexual assault in their community. They also plan to file a Title IX complaint with the Department of Education.
The complaint alleges Swarthmore College discourages students from reporting crimes, underreports incidents, doesn’t issue timely reports, doesn’t report potential sanctions, and intimidates, discriminates and retaliates against sexual assault survivors and their advocates, reports the Daily Gazette.
On April 15, Swarthmore College President Rebecca Chopp announced the school will have an external audit of its policies and procedures involving sexual assault.
