$110K Reward Offered for Info on UCLA Firebomb Incident

Published: July 25, 2007

LOS ANGELES – A failed car bombing provoked City Councilman Jack Weiss to offer a $110,000 reward on July 24 to anyone able to help identify the culprits.

On June 24, UCLA researcher Dr. Arthur Rosenbaum’s car was the target of a failed firebomb from an animal-rights extremist group. Rosenbaum works as chief of pediatric ophthalmology at the university’s Jules Stein Eye institute. Apparently the group believed his experiments on monkeys were cruel, according to a spokesperson from the North American Animal Liberation Press Office.

The FBI tracked the incident down to the Animal Liberation Brigade based on a message posted three days later on its Web site. Still, officials do not know which individuals are responsible.

Animal rights extremists have allegedly threatened seven other faculty at UCLA. Anyone with more information regarding Rosenbaum’s case has been urged to call the FBI.
