1 Student Killed, 2 Injured in Santa Ana High School Stabbing

Police confirmed all parties involved are students at Santa Ana High school who were affiliated with gangs.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — One student was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing outside Santa Ana High School on Wednesday afternoon.

Santa Ana Police responded to reports of a stabbing at the entrance of the school around 3:25 p.m., just after classes were dismissed for the day, ABC 7 reports. The three male victims, ages 14, 15 and 16, were transported to local hospitals. The 14-year-old victim died at the hospital while the other victims are listed in stable condition. Their names have not been released.

The two suspects, also male students at the school, fled the scene. The teens, ages 15 and 17, turned themselves in at the police station overnight accompanied by their parents. Police confirmed all parties involved in the deadly stabbing were affiliated with gangs.

Diana Vasquez, the mother of a freshman who is a friend of the deceased victim, told KTLA that some students filmed the altercation.

“She couldn’t believe it,” she said. “She said he was a really nice kid, that he was never in trouble.”

All school activities were canceled for the day. The Santa Ana Unified School District wrote in a statement that there would be increased police presence around the school on Thursday and that crisis counselors would be made available for students and staff.
