Richmond, Virginia – An altercation between two male co-workers inside a stairwell at VCU Medical Center North Hospital resulted in one of the men being fatally shot early Wednesday morning.
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police received a report just after midnight on Wednesday that shots were fired and there was an active threat inside the hospital, reports WTVR. Officers quickly responded and discovered a man had been shot, reports NBC12. The victim died a short while later.
The victim has been identified as Ty-Quan White, 25, reports WHSV. The suspected shooter is Christopher Boisseau, 24. Both the victim and the alleged shooter were employees at VCU Medical Center North Hospital.
Boisseau was quickly taken into custody after VCU Police officers arrived at the scene.
No patients were involved in the shooting.
According to VCU Police, after the shooting, the hospital was immediately placed on lockdown. Operations are now back to normal.
Boisseau has been charged with maliciously shooting inside a building. He may face other charges. VCU Police and the Richmond Police Department are jointly investigating the incident.
