Boucherle’s Pick: Noke Smart Lock

I can’t tell you how many locks I have tossed because I forgot the combination or lost the key. This Kickstarter company, launched in 2014, had a better idea. What about a Bluetooth-enabled lock with your smartphone, which we never go anywhere without, do we?

The convenience of a smart-phone app has been married with a well-made traditional padlock that will fit virtually any security locking application. The convenience factor is very attractive, especially in low-light situations or if your eyesight has trouble with tiny numbers on a tumbler; or with taking off your gloves in the winter!

But what if your phone dies or runs out of power? They built in a back-up system called Quick-Click, which allows a physical override Morse code style. The lock has some heft to it, weighing in at nearly a half-pound, so it should stand up to abuse and still work. The battery lasts about a year and is relatively easy to change. This could save college kids’ bikes. It’s worth a look! noke.com
