Cal State Channel Islands Officers Rescue Man From Burning Building

CHANNEL ISLANDS, Calif. — Two California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) officers received Medals of Valor for rescuing an injured man from a burning building.

Sgt. Jeff Cowgill and Officer Stephen Osman responded to a 911 call on March 16, reporting an explosion at a campus power substation. When the duo arrived at the scene, an injured man was laying inside of the flame- and smoke-engulfed substation. The victim’s coworker, Gary Cowles, pulled him out of the burning electrical cabinet on the substation floor, The Camarillo Acorn reports.

The CSUCI officers pulled the unnamed victim out of the burning building and performed CPR.

The victim suffered second- and third-degree burns from the waist up. He continues to recuperate at home.
