Here’s How 7 Institutions Dealt with Recent Ransomware Attacks

The Ottawa Hospital (Canada)

The Ottawa Hospital found a virus on a small fraction of its computers during the week of March 7 and immediately wiped their hard drives. IT officials were then able to restore the lost data with backup copies.

Hospital officials never had to consider paying any ransom because of the small scale of the attack: When the virus was discovered, only four of the hospital’s 9,800 computers were infected.

Officials refused to release any information on the type of ransomware attack they experienced, but they said no patient information was affected.
