The 2018 Campus Safety Salary and Benefits Survey

As a whole, the starting salary for school, university and hospital sworn public safety/police officers has increased over the past three years. In 2015, the median salary was $37,500. Now it’s $42,500, with 34% of respondents saying that their sworn officers make more than $45,000 per year. Three years ago, only 19% made that amount. Novice officers in the West have the highest median annual salary at $47,500, while officers in the South have the lowest at $32,500. The starting median yearly pay rate for sworn officers in the Midwest and Northeast is $42,500.
