Purdue Shooting Victim Has Died

Update Jan. 22, 2014: The suspect and victim in Tuesday’s shooting have been identified as engineering student Cody Cousins, 23, and teaching assistant Andrew Boldt, 21, respectively, reports the Associated Press. Authorities are still trying to determine the motive.

Update: Police have announced that the victim in today’s shooting, a male student, has died, reports TheIndyChannel. The shooting appears to have been planned and possibly targeted.

WEST LAFEYETTE, Ind.—A shooting has been reported at Purdue University, and the suspected gunman has been apprehended.

The shooting occurred in a basement classroom of the school’s electrical engineering building on Tuesday afternoon, and the university sent a text alert instructing everyone to shelter in place, reports TheIndyChannel.com.  The shelter-in-place order was lifted a short time later, except for the electrical engineering building.

Police say once male surrendered without incident after the shooting. 

The initial emergency notification sent to the campus by Purdue was: “Shooting reported on campus; Bldg. Electrical Engineering; avoid area; shelter in place; Check www.purdue.edu for updates.”
