5 Steps to Successful Security Upgrades
The approach Quinnipiac University and the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay used when implementing their new security systems can be adopted by other campuses so their decision-making and procurement processes are as productive as possible.
Although geographically they are far apart (by more than 1,000 miles), Hamden, Conn.-based Quinnipiac University and the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay (UW-GB), have an important similarity: Both recently implemented card access control and other security solutions.
UW-GB has a one-card system that is cost effective, easy for staff to maintain and easy for students to use. When a student drops or adds a class, the university’s database quickly communicates the change to the security system. According to Paul Wikgren, an information system business analyst, “He or she can access their classroom for their new class right away. It used to take a lot of manual processes for a student to get his or her card changed.”
Students at Quinnipiac University are also experiencing the benefits of recently implemented safety and security technology. When they attend classes this fall, their identification card will allow them to access their residence hall, pay for their meals at the dining hall, and get tickets for the hockey or basketball games.
