LANSING, Mich. – In an attempt to reduce the number of erroneous reports, Michigan State Police are looking for a better method of investigating the backgrounds of teachers and school employees.
Some school districts and teachers’ unions are saying that recently completed checks report some convictions that never actually happened. Police officials want an upgraded system that uses more information so crimes won’t be attributed to those with crime-free histories.
State police are required to conduct background checks of school employees and teachers twice per year.
