DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University’s lacrosse team will be allowed to play next season but will be monitored and subject to strict rules governing conduct.
School officials say they will keep a close eye on the team to see if players continue previous patterns of inappropriate behavior. Officials indicate they will reconsider their decision if the team or its players behave irresponsibly.
Duke’s president suspended the nationally ranked team April 5, and the team’s coach, Mike Pressler, resigned after three of the players were accused of gang-raping an exotic dancer. David Evans, 23, Reade Seligmann, 20, and Collin Finnerty, 19, have been charged in the case and await trial.
Kevin Cassese has been named the interim coach while Duke searches for a new full-time coach.
