University Undergoes Campus Risk Assessment

HAMDEN, Conn. — Quinnipiac University recently underwent a campus risk assessment to help prepare for possible natural and man-made disasters. The assessment was conducted by Blue Line Risk Mitigation.

John Twining, the university’s director of emergency management, will develop plans for the campus based on the assessments, the Quad News reports. He intends to make the campus compliant with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Last year, the university created a plan to combat the spread of the H1N1 flu. Officials set up an isolation area in athletic center studios where students who felt ill were quarantined. Twining believes this prevented an outbreak that could have affected as many as 3,000 students.

Blue Line Risk Mitigation will work with the university to determine the likelihood of tornadoes, flooding earthquakes, chemical incidents and active shooters, among other things.
