Samuel Esposito, 65, died on Sunday Jan. 31 of cancer.

Since 2004, Esposito had been employed with Carolinas Healthcare System and eventually became an investigator and trainer for Corporate Security CHS-Main until his cancer progressed to the point where he could no longer do his job.

He began his career in public safety in 1972 when he was commissioned by the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a trooper. In 1999, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant, serving at the Saybrook Post. During his career, he was also an instructor at the patrol academy in Columbus, Ohio. In 2003, after 31 years of service, he retired from the state highway patrol.

Esposito is survived by his wife, Michele; and children: Mark Esposito and Scott Esposito of Ohio, Jared Swiger of Ashtabula, Ohio, Corey (Anita) Swiger of Monument, Colo., and Cassandra Swiger of Concord, N.C. He had one sister, Patty Jo (Tom) Cooney of Ashtabula Ohio. Sam was “Papa” to his six beloved grandchildren: Malakai Swiger, Noah Swiger, Logan Swiger, Matthew Swiger, Harlow Johnson and Caden Swiger. He was a” special papa” to Madeline Riester.

At Esposito’s request, no calling hours will be observed. His family will have a Requiem Mass and Celebration of Life Ceremony, to be held at a later date, for all those whom loved him and wish to attend.
