An escalating epidemic of active shooter incidents in schools, with events too numerous to list, starting from Columbine CO in 1999, to VA Tech in 2011 and Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shootings have culminated to create a watershed moment in our times, whereby public opinion is demanding a solution be found to this accelerating, tragic problem.

To-date progress has been slow making schools less susceptible to attack by active shooters. Unlike 9/11’s formation of the Transportation Security Administration, there’s still no central specialized body of education-sector security experts and guidelines for auditing, measuring and quantifying a school facility for security vulnerability and improvements. Everyone, at once, is in need of more information on available security technology and it’s efficacy and applicability in their school or campus setting.

We’ll introduce the School Access-Control Vulnerability Index™ (S.A.V.I.), a brand agnostic audit and certification process to quantify protections against an active shooter gaining access – supplying education officials with objective, unbiased & cost-effective guidance, combining all security disciplines, from physical barriers, to ballistic glass, to surveillance cameras, to locks, access control, exit alarms, visitor management, etc., by providing tools such as SAVI and other security assessment tools to k-12 and universities as a third party service. Also reviewed will be key considerations in customizing a Security Plan for effective deployment and the joint responsibility between the integrator/manufacturer providing information and the owner enforcement.

Join us as Napco’s VP of School & Campus Safety, Byron Thurmond, discusses the importance of school & campus security and protecting against active shooter incidents while covering the following:

  • Introduction to the School Access-Control Vulnerability Index™ (S.A.V.I.), a brand agnostic audit and certification process to quantify protections against an active shooter gaining access
  • How a SAVI audit is executed, who should conduct it, with whom, why and how it supplies education officials with objective, unbiased & cost-effective guidance
  • Customizing an improved security plan: Key considerations and actions for deploying an effective school security assessment and all parties involved.
