Authorities are investigating the death of a potential second victim after finding the gunman’s suspected ‘kill list’ that included the name of a woman in Minnesota and two UCLA professors.
Police say the victim could have died if a fellow teacher hadn’t discovered him so quickly.
The cases involved 30 children from two different elementary schools in the district.
Lawyers for the plaintiff argued the district failed to report the abuse and inadequately supervisised of the teacher.
Community members said they were surprised by the decision.
The revelations come at a time when the district is facing hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and a lawsuit from the teachers’ union.
Under current laws, some worry that teachers could be mistaken for gunman by first responders.
The union says strikes would begin April 13 and would continue if an agreement isn’t reached.
The sickouts are an attempt to push for better pay and health benefits.
The teacher has been charged with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
