Effectively Deploying Panic Alarms During a Crisis

March 20, 2025 @ 2 PM ET

Schools and institutions of higher education are embracing panic alarms now more than ever, and for good reason. Duress buttons — be they fixed, wearable or in a mobile phone app – enable staff members, faculty, administrators, public safety officers and other campus employees to quickly call for help when there is an emergency. But once a school, school district, or college campus has purchased a panic alarm system, how can the technology be used most effectively?

To find out, Campus Safety will speak with three campus protection executives who have deployed and used the panic alarm systems at their schools to respond to safety and security concerns on campus.

Brazosport ISD (Texas) Chief of Safety and Security Ty Morrow, Brazosport High School Vice Principal Lawrence Rocque, and University of Georgia Associate Director of Emergency Preparedness John Newton, PhD will discuss:

  • The types of panic alarm systems they’ve adopted
  • The processes they go through when determining the panic button technology their organizations need and who should have the ability to initiate an alarm
  • Specific situations when their panic alarm technologies were used
  • When and in what situations their systems are most often activated
  • Lessons learned and advice they have for their peers at other schools and universities
