Zebra Technologies Corporation, a manufacturer of marking, tracking and computer printing technologies, introduces the ET80 and ET85 (ET8x series), a new series of Windows 12-inch rugged tablets and 2-in-1s — ideal for public safety, government, field service and manufacturing industries.
The ET80 and ET85, which run on Intel 11th Generation processors, are Zebra’s first tablets with support for WiFi 6E and 5G and are said to provide advanced wireless connectivity to help ensure mobile workers remain connected in any environment. Using citizen broadband radio service (CBRS), companies can enable private LTE networks that provide wireless connectivity — indoors and outdoors — in large facilities.
Weighing less than 2.9 pounds, the tablets, which have longer battery life than earlier models, offer a portable option and can be purchased with a detached keyboard that features a friction hinge to let front-line workers experience a complete laptop-like experience.
“Balancing the need for a more flexible and portable mobile solution without sacrificing high-end performance and large display requirements has opened the door for 2-in-1 detachable rugged tablets, such as Zebra Technologies’ ET80 and ET85,” says David Krebs, Executive Vice President, VDC Research. “This emerging form factor has enabled mission-critical mobile workforces in sectors as diverse as public safety and government to maintain support for traditional rugged clamshell PC use cases while enabling more mobile and distributed workflows.”
For public safety and state and local government agencies, Zebra says its tablets and 2-in-1s allow routing and dispatch communications, patient care reporting, e-citation and personnel tracking.
The new ET8x series have a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, optional integrated barcode scanner, and supports Windows Hello using a front-facing camera for facial recognition and optional fingerprint reader for multi-factor authentication.
The ET80 and ET85 are also the company’s first Windows 10 tablets with Zebra Mobility DNA software tools to optimize workflows, and improve communications and usability for mobile workers, according to the company. These tools include PowerPrecision Plus, which provides visibility into device battery health and optional Workforce Connect Push to Talk features.
