NACCOP Launches New Clery Compliance Officer Certification Program

The organization is pitching the training as a professional development program.

The National Association of Clery Compliance Officers and Professionals (NACCOP) announced May 19 that it is accepting applications for the newly-created Clery Compliance Officer Certification Program (CCO Certification Program).

The CCO Certification Program is for eligible employees of colleges and universities who want to benefit from NACCOP’s expertise in leading and managing Clery Act compliance activities. The program will provide participants with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a comprehensive professional development program that leads to a professional credential from the only association serving the needs of Clery compliance officers and professionals.

The NACCOP is a collaborative body for Clery compliance professionals to share resources and best practices.

Program requirements involve a rigorous combination of educational initiatives, including: successful completion of a self-paced online training program, participation in a series of live webinars designed specifically for the certification program and a writing assignment. Candidates completing these requirements within two years will be eligible to take the Certification Exam to earn the “Certified Clery Compliance Officer” designation through NACCOP.

Dolores Stafford, Executive Director of NACCOP, said in a statement “Today’s announcement marks an important milestone in the field of Clery compliance and in the professionalization of Clery compliance officers. This program-the first and only of its kind-will help ensure that institutional officials involved in Clery compliance activities have the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively lead the institution’s Clery compliance program.”

Applications to the program will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with the inaugural cohort beginning in August 2016 and additional cohorts to follow throughout the year. To learn more about the program, or to apply, visit www.naccop.org.
