COON RAPIDS, Wis. – A woman posing as a nursing student at Mercy Hospital has been arrested for allegedly trying to siphon narcotics drugs out of patients’ IV bags.
Maria Mihalik, 26, is a licensed nurse although she is not employed with Mercy Hospital. Hospital officials grew suspicious of the woman because of her odd behavior and the fact that nursing students were not expected at the hospital that day, reports TwinCities.com.
The suspect had numerous syringes in her possession when hospital security stopped her, reports TwinCities.com. Investigators said it appeared that the suspect drew fluid from at least three IV bags in the hospital.
Hospital officials believe Mihalik has raised suspicions at Mercy before. Charges are being withheld while investigators try to determine how often she entered the hospital as an imposter.
No patient was harmed during the incident.
