WESTPORT, Conn. – Members of the Representative Town Meeting here approved allocating $500,000 to install protective film for school windows in the Westport Public Schools district.
The funds will pay for part of the Board of Education’s initiatives to improve school security, which launched following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, Westport-News reports.
3M Company will supply the special security film, which will be placed on all first floor windows and doors at Westport’s eight public schools in an effort to slow down access by those who would harm students and teachers, Westport Now reports.
The security film is expected to delay entry time of someone shooting his way onto the campus from three to two minutes, giving police enough time to respond.
The project will begin this summer.
