Santa Barbara, Calif.
Published: November 22, 2008

Students from Westmont College and U.C. Santa Barbara were cleared of involvement in the recent California fire that scorched 1,940 acres and destroyed 210 residents. The fire caused more than $5.7 million in damage.

A smoldering bonfire that was left unattended sparked the fire. Ten individuals who build the bonfire are associated with a local school, but authorities are not releasing the name of the school.

The fire began on Nov. 13 and burned until Nov. 17 due to high winds. Some local evacuations still remain, even though the fire is 100 percent contained.
