KELSO, Wash. — On Feb. 7, Kelso School District officials voted unanimously to strengthen the district’s policy on cell phones. The policy would be amended to ban illicit text messages, which sometimes include explicit photographs.
“Sexting” – the act of sending explicit text messages – and E-mailing inappropriate materials are now banned on school property during school hours and school-related events, KGW reports. Administrators are now allowed to confiscate and search cell phones for offensive content.
Students who are found to be sexting will face possible suspension, and parents and police with be notified of the incident. On a third offense, the student could face expulsion.
