Walter Read Guard Attempts to Shoot Fellow Employee

WASHINGTON – An armed security guard at Walter Read Army Medical Center fired about 10 rounds at a fellow officer just outside one of the hospital’s entrances June 20.

Dwan Thigpen, 34, was arrested and charged with intent to murder. The other guard was not injured. Two civilians also avoided injury by ducking.

The incident occurred during an argument between the two officers. A third officer attempted to break up the argument, trying to keep Thigpen from using his gun.

All three guards work for Vance Federal Security Services.
