Voters Approve $14.5M School Bond for N.Y. District
LAKELAND, N.Y. — Voters here approved spending $14.5 million to improve school security on Tuesday.
The bond will add surveillance cameras and swipe-card access around the perimeter of eight schools, as well as double vestibules in front of each building, add phones in every classroom and fire doors in hallways, LoHud.com reports.
The Lakeland Central School District will also use the funds to build an emergency access pathway between Benjamin Franklin Elementary School and Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School. The district also plans to build a walkway leading down to the athletic fields at Walter Panas High School.
Officials expect the project to be completed by the summer of 2015.
