Virus Hits Chicago Area High School, More Than 100 Ill
CHICAGO – Last week, many students and faculty at New Trier Township High School in Winnetka were sickened by what Cook County health officials believe is an outbreak of Norovirus.
Norovirus symptoms include vomiting and abdominal cramping and last one to two days. The virus passes very easily from one person to another.
School officials are taking extra steps to prevent further contamination. They have disinfected school desks, bathrooms and the cafeteria, instructed students to wash their hands and wipe surfaces before eating, and asked students to refrain from attending school or student activities until they’ve been symptom-free for one day.
Health officials will further investigate what caused the outbreak, and are concentrating on preventing the virus from spreading.
