Virginia Commonwealth U. to Build Training Facility for Campus Police

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has received $2 million to build a regional training facility for college and municipal police departments.

VCU’s new training center will have indoor and outdoor firing ranges, facilities that simulate what police officers might encounter in the field and classrooms for instruction. VCU Police plan to use the center to expand training programs on crisis intervention, crowd management, active shooter and firearms training, WTVR.com reports.

The university received the funds as part of a $33 million grant issued by the Virginia Attorney General’s office to help state and local law enforcement agencies.
