Alcohol Causes 500 Va. Tech Injuries Per Year
BLACKSBURG, Va. — On Friday, Virginia Tech released a report on its efforts intended to curb alcohol abuse and other harmful behaviors on and off campus.
The report found that approximately 500 injuries occur each year at the university as a result of alcohol misuse and abuse, The Roanoke Times reports. The university’s initiative to combat these problems is called the Task Force to Reduce Alcohol Harm, Injuries and Fatalities. It began in October 2010.
The report calls for the establishment of a Maroon Band Watch Program, a cadre of students educated in both alcohol matters and related first aid and CPR, as well as other programs meant to reduce drinking.
