Va. Tech Buildings Receive Addresses For Better Emergency Response
BLACKSBURG, Va. — Over the next year, Virginia Tech’s buildings will each be assigned a standard U.S. Postal Service street address. The change is expected to improve campus emergency response.
Previously, the facilities were assigned only four digit mail codes, The Roanoke Times reports. The change was accomplished in collaboration with Blacksburg officials and campus and town police, and was initiated during planning for a new regional 911 dispatch center.
The addresses will make it easier for off-campus police, fire and rescue agencies to assist in an emergency, according to Chief Wendell Flinchum.
The new dispatch center will be located in the soon-to-be remodeled Montgomery County Courthouse in Christiansburg.
