University of Virginia sorority members have been ordered by their national chapters to avoid fraternity parties over the weekend of Jan. 31, following the violent death of a student and a now-discredited gang rape claim made to Rolling Stone.

Jan. 31 is the fraternities’ bid night, where sorority sisters typically go from house to house. Sorority members say the orders to avoid the event, as well as other social gatherings with fraternity members, are sexiest and irrational, the Washington Post reports.

Some sorority chapters have threatened members with suspension, fines and other penalties for attending the parties. Some are planning mandatory in-house retreats on the night of Jan. 31.

Earlier this month, University of Virginia officials lifted a suspension of Greek activities, which was implement after an article in Rolling Stone claimed the school mishandled rape allegations.
