A former sixth grade teacher in Utah will be taking a gun safety course and paying for a new toilet after pleading no contest to discharging her weapon in her school’s bathroom on Sept. 11 at Westbrook Elementary School.
Michelle Ferguson-Montgomery won’t be serving any jail time on the charge of discharging a firearm in a prohibited area within city limits, according to guns.com. If she is not cited for any additional crimes, the charges will be dismissed after a year.
Ferguson-Montgomery has already paid $200 to replace the toilet and was ordered to pay a $705 court fee. She also resigned from her position at the school, according to guns.com.
Ferguson-Montgomery, who has a valid concealed weapons permit, said she removed the gun from the holster and placed it on top of the toilet paper dispenser while in the bathroom stall. She suffered minor injuries to her lower leg, most likely from the shards of broken porcelain. Nobody else was hurt.
