A 16-year-old high school student has been shot and killed during an off-campus dispute with two other juveniles. Both parties exchanged gunfire on January 21 before the Kearns High School student was struck in the torso. He then fled on foot to the high school where he collapsed.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
It is believed that both sides of the altercation were involved in a gang. The high school and several other district schools in the area were placed on lockdown after the shooting as part of standard district procedure.
