More and more college students are using Adderall and Ritalin to help them study. The drugs, normally prescribed for attention-deficit disorder, are amphetamine based, addictive and can disrupt sleep.
According to National Public Radio (NPR), Adderall, which is often called “Addy,” is the most popular study drug on university campuses. The going rate for one pill is $5 but can increase to $25 during exams. Students who have prescriptions to treat ADD are the main source of the drugs.
Some experts believe as many as 25 percent of students at some universities have used the drugs in the past year.
