ATLANTA, Ga. — The Morris Brown College police department is under state investigation after it was discovered that the college employees 27 officers for a campus of just 63 students. The school only requires the officers to work 16 hours a month to remain on the campus police force, making them eligible for lucrative security jobs elsewhere.
Of those 27 officers, 17 have been placed on probation, investigated or publicly reprimanded by the Georgia’s Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council, WSBTV reports. Several fake identification cards claiming that their holders were “duly sworn police officers” were seized during the investigation.
POST investigators have revoked the college’s blue light permits from its unmarked police vehicles. The investigation is ongoing.
