LORAIN, Ohio — Most of the 100 Clearview High School students who were reportedly out sick last week are back in class, although the source of the illness has not been established.
More than 100 students were absent Oct. 5, with some reporting symptoms of diarrhea, fever and vomiting, The Morning Journal reports.
The Lorain County General Health District is still investigating the cause of the illness. Students have been asked to write down food that they ate in order to create a report on the incident. Initially, health department officials believed food poisoning was the result of the illness after 30 football players reported being sick after a recent football banquet. However, the idea was ruled out when none of the coaches who also ate the meal got sick, reports WOIO.com.
The health department has confirmed three cases of salmonella poisoning and one case of Staph infection; however, it is unknown whether the infections are connected to the school’s pandemic.
