GREENSBORO, N.C. – The non-fatal shooting of a student in a University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG) dormitory March 25 will lead to increased patrols of the area.
Campus police arrested Brian Martin, 19, in connection with the shooting of UNCG freshman Stephen Cobb. Witnesses say the shooting took place after an altercation in the campus’ Weil Hall. Police are also searching for a second suspect.
Martin is not a student, and it is not currently known why he was on campus. Cobb was shot in the lower back and taken to Moses Cone Hospital, but the wounds were not considered life threatening.
The incident raises concern about the 24-hour visitation policy at the dorms. Other schools limit visitation hours to their dorms.
Sunday’s incident was the first shooting on campus in more than 20 years.
