Univ. Reexamines Sexual Assault Reporting Policy
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Officials at Marquette University are reexamining the institution’s sexual assault reporting policy. Currently, the university allows the victim to decide whether or not to contact local police in the case of an assault.
Four sexual assaults have been reported to campus security this school year, Fox News reports. In one case, a student alleged she had been attacked by members of the university basketball team; when the university concluded there was no enough evidence to support her claims, she went to the police.
Another sexual assault was reported at a campus residence hall in March. The victim decided to contact Milwaukee police.
Marquette Dean of Students Stephanie Quade told the news source that the university will be looking into whether or not to do more when it comes to reporting crimes such as sexual assault.
