A professor at the University of North Carolina has been sentenced to four years and eight months in an Argentinean prison for attempting to smuggle four pounds of cocaine into the United States.
Paul Frampton, a 68-year-old professor of physics and astronomy, flew to Bolivia in January to meet Denise Milani, the winner of Miss Bikini World 2007, reports ABC News. However, Frampton maintains that he met with a man claiming to be an intermediary for Milani, who gave the professor a suitcase and told him to deliver it to the model in Argentina.
When Frampton could not find Milani in Argentina, he decided to board a plane home with the suitcase. Police discovered more than four pounds of cocaine inside the baggage. Frampton insists that he is an innocent scam victim.
As he awaited trial on the drug charges, UNC cut Frampton’s salary, prompting the professor to file a lawsuit against the university, requesting to have his $107,000 salary reinstated while in prison. Additionally, he requested that UNC double his salary, according to ABC News.
