Umpqua Community College in Oregon has signed a contract to have a retired deputy patrol campus.
The school, which was the site of an Oct. 1 shooting that left ten dead, is hoping the new security measure will give the campus community more peace of mind.
The college signed the contract with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 6, according to kesi.com.
The retired deputy began his patrols Nov. 9. He will work 35 hours a week and the college will pay the Sheriff’s Office roughly $30,000 for the service.

The Sheriff’s Office said the deputy will possess a gun, Taser and radio just like any other deputy.
