LOS ANGELES – A UCLA Healthcare employee has admitted he covertly videotaped female patients who were undressing.
The X-ray technician, 40-year-old Jose Mauricio Contreras, pleaded guilty Nov. 2 to annoying or molesting a child and invasion of privacy. The incidents occurred at UCLA Healthcare’s Manhattan Beach, Calif., Clinic.
Police were prompted to investigate when a 16-year-old female patient who was having her back X-rayed realized a video camera was placed between her legs. Authorities found photos and videos of women and girls at Contreras’ residence, but could not identify 14 of the females in the videos.
Contreras was sentenced to three years in jail, three years probation and a year of sex offender treatment. He must also register as a sex offender and is forbidden from working in healthcare or around children.
