UCLA Clears Campus Police Officers of Excessive Force Claims

LOS ANGELES — Two UCLA police officers, accused by an African American judge of using excessive force after they stopped him for not wearing a seatbelt, have been cleared by the university’s police department.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Cunningham III, a former police commission president, filed a complaint alleging that Officers Kevin Dodd and James Kim used excessive force and racial profiling during a traffic stop in November.

On Feb. 3, Cunningham filed a legal claim for $10 million regarding the incident, the Los Angeles Times reports.

After reviewing a dashboard camera recording from the officers’ vehicle, UCLA officials determined that the evidence did not support Cunningham’s claims.
