DAVIS, Calif. – The University of California, Davis, has confirmed Matt Carmichael as its chief of police.
Carmichael has served as interim chief at UC Davis since April 2012. He became acting chief at the university in November 2011 after then-chief Annette Spicuzza was placed on administrative leave, Dateline UC Davis reports.
With more than 30 years in law enforcement, Carmichael has served with the UC Davis Police Department for 12 years. During his time, he has been responsible for patrol operations and served as public information officer.
Carmichael has also managed the K-9 program, property and evidence, bike unit, crime prevention, crime analysis, detective unit, field training officr program and hostage negotiations team.
“In the past two years, Matt Carmichael has earned wide respect on and off campus and mad significant changes to strengthen the department and its relations with the rest of the campus,” Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi said. “I’m delighted to announce that Matt will be staying in his role.”
