DAVIS, Calif. — University of California Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi made her first public comments Tuesday on the November pepper-spray incident. She accepted full responsibility for the incident and has promised to make changes to ensure “that something like this does not happen again.”
Katehi said there will be a full review of the campus police department’s actions and the problems mentioned in the recently released Reynoso report on the incident, The Sacramento Bee reports. The university is also considering the formation of a police review commission.
The report, compiled for former Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso, found communication failures in the department and within the administration and Katehi’s office that led to the pepper-spraying of students.
