BERKELEY, Calif. – The body of a 22-year-old University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley) student was found just hours after he participated in the university’s commencement ceremony.
Alan Kaname Hamai had just received his degree in anthropology May 16. On May 17, police received a phone call regarding a body on the sidewalk beneath a three-story residence hall on campus. It is believed that the fall took place between 2 and 5 a.m.
Hamai’s parents were on their way back home to southern California when they received the news. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene, and police believe alcohol may have been involved.
