TUCSON, Ariz. – Hundreds of fans clashed with police Saturday following the University of Arizona basketball team’s loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA tournament, resulting in 15 people being arrested.

The melee began when fans left bars and restaurants near campus and filled University Boulevard after Arizona 64-63 overtime loss to Wisconsin. Police shot pepper spray to disperse the crowd of fans, who threw beer bottles and firecrackers at officers, Fox News reports.

The melee lasted for a little less than an hour, CBS Sports reports.

The incident was similar to what happened in 2001, when police arrested 17 people after Arizona lost to Duke in the championship game. That melee resulted in a student losing an eye after a beanbag filled with lead birdshot fired by Tucson police struck him in the eye, The Associated Press reports.
