Two shootings hours apart from each other occurred in the same area at Delaware State University over the weekend.
Campus Police, Dover Police, Delaware State Police and other agencies searched the campus and surrounding area April 18 but have made no arrests after two shootings that may not have been related.
The first shooting occurred at a school-sanctioned fraternity and sorority cookout on campus after a fight broke out around 8 p.m. Saturday. Three people were shot but no one sustained life-threatening injuries, according to whnt.com.
Five hours later there was another shooting at the University Courtyard apartments a block from campus. No one was injured in the second shooting but the campus was locked down April 19 as police searched for a suspect described as 5’11” with dreadlocks driving a dark 4-door sedan.
It is unclear if the shooter or any of the victims are Delaware State University students.
Update: Delaware State University officials said in a statement that they had adequate security measures set up at the cookout Saturday. They also said they made local law enforcement aware of the crowd, which helped them respond quicker when the first shooting occurred. No other new information has been release as police are still investigating both shootings.
