Twitter Threat Deemed Credible, Penn State Closed

Published: October 20, 2011

CENTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Penn State-Beaver campus was closed Friday and several other school districts were on lockdown after police determined that a threat made by a former Penn student on Twitter was credible.

Michael Mollett posted a threat to the social media Web site referring to the Virginia Tech shootings, the Beaver County Times reports. Campus police reviewed the posting and alerted Center Township police and the FBI.

Students, faculty and staff were initially alerted to a problem on Thursday night via the university’s text alert system.

The university campus was searched, but Mollett was not found. Police are still searching for Mollett, who has an outstanding warrant related to a previous incident.
